Intentional Mistakes
I hate it when people do bad stuff intentionally with full knowledge of the implications and possible consequences and get caught say they made a “mistake.” Yea I you should have been better at not getting caught. Nobody can do stuff by accident. People choose the tings they do. And most people know exactly what they are doing. Therefore they choose the consequences of those actions. Examples: Clinton chose to be impeached when he lied to a grand jury, about the nature of his relationship with Monica Lewinsky. Just as Tom DeLay chose to be removed as House majority leader for the many dis honest things he has done, as well as Abramoff.

Mistake imply incompetence. For the most part incompetence does not land you in jail. Abramoff was very competent at what he does. He just happened to be illegal. To Abramoff credit he confessed and pleaded guilty. It might be that he saw the handwriting on the wall, cut a deal early. But I will give him the benefit of the doubt. He said he is sorry and I believe he is sorry. Just don’t call it a mistake.
