BitTorrent said Tuesday that it had struck a content deal with Warner Bros. Entertainment to use the network to distribute movies and television shows. It is believed to be the first of its kind between a file-sharing company and the entertainment industry.

The service would begin this summer, say BitTorrent executives. Television shows could sell for as litlle as $1, half the price of iTunes video downloads. The company’s technology has sparked the interest of Hollywood as a easy way to distribute digital content, said BitTorrent president Ashwin Navin.

They are the first BIG media company to imbrace P2P as a way to distribute large content. iTunes is prolly OK for your PC but the quality is not good enough play on your TV, assuming you can find a way to get it to you TV in the first place. A Broadcast/DVD (not to mention HD) show or movie, would kill a traditional client-server delivery system.

AOL(link) said Tuesday it will be laying off 1,300 workers in response to the changing needs of its business. Most of the affected employees are in the company’s customer support facilities, and its Jacksonville, Fla., call center would be shut down completely. According to an AOL(link) spokesperson, calls to its help lines have fallen by about 50 percent. The service says the drop in support requests has a lot to do with the increasing sophistication of its users.

While this is bad news for it’s employees. Time Warner finally realize that the value of AOL(link) has always been its content, and Instant Messaging. Now that high value content can be gotten anywhere without having to deal with and with AOL(link), AIM(link) has taken off as a free servers on its own, why pay for the high prices? The security angle I think is good though, but they should have contracted with McAfee or Symantec (Don’t know how their security features stack up with the big boys) but I would get AOL(link) High-Speed if it meant I get free security upgrades of am major security provider.

Granted it only works for mono-cromatic(one color) specks of dust but it is still cool. My hope is to build this technology into a ring with which I can rule ALL of MIDDLE EARTH booo haa haa haa haa haaa haaaaaa !

OK over the top but this is still cool. But the article does not say that the clocked object will be transparent. Just invisible. Makes me think it will be like is it is covered in a strange dark shadow. And will only work for object s of one color and of certain shapes. So obviously there is work to be done.

Anyway when are we gonna see flying cars ? Is Anybody working on that ?

Physicists Nicolae Nicorovici from the University of Sydney, Australia, and Graeme Milton, from the University of Utah, have proposed that devices called superlenses could be used to create a type of cloaking device. Using a principle called “anomalous localized resonance,” superlenses placed very close to a small object could mask its reflected light waves by resonating at the same frequency, much like how noise-canceling headphones mask sound waves by creating a sound that is at the same frequency but inverted in phase.

Professor Sir John Pendry, of Imperial College London, who helped pioneer superlenses, said: “If the speck of dust is close enough it induces a very aggressive response in the cloaking material which essentially acts back on the speck of dust and forces it to stop shining.

“Even though light is hitting the speck of dust, scattering of the light is prevented by the cloak which is in close proximity,” he told the BBC News website.

The bill, sponsored by Representatives Ed Markey of Massachusetts, Jay Inslee of Washington state, Anna Eshoo of California and Rick Boucher of Virginia, would create a ‘Net neutrality law banning phone and cable companies from charging Web sites for faster data transmission, or blocking their online competitors’ content and services. Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) has introduced a similar bill in the Senate.

New Virtualization Software Lets Mac OS X and Windows Share Desktop
According to Benjamin Rudolph, marketing manager, the software is based on the company’s virtualization engine.

The Mac OS X port of Parallels Workstation 2.1 will let users build secure, “self-contained virtual machines running any version of Windows—all the way back to 3.1—Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, OS/2 and DOS … directly on your OS X desktop,” he said.

Included in the massive proposal is, however, one requirement sure to please the recording industry: authorization for the FCC to start the process of outlawing digital over-the-air radio and digital satellite receivers sold today that permit users to record broadcasts. Those would be supplanted with receivers that will treat as copy-protected anything with an “audio broadcast flag” in the future.

(1)The three little words are: “Hold On, Please…”

Saying this, while putting down your phone and walking off (instead of hanging-up immediately) would make each telemarketing call so much more time-consuming that boiler room sales would grind to a halt.

Then when you eventually hear the phone company’s “beep-beep-beep” tone, you know it’s time to go back and hang up your handset, which has efficiently completed its task.

These three little words will help eliminate telephone soliciting.

(2) Do you ever get those annoying phone calls with no one on the other end?

This is a telemarketing technique where a machine makes phone calls and records the time of day when a person answers the phone.

This technique is used to determine the best time of day for a “real” sales person to call back and get someone at home.

What you can do after answering, if you notice there is no one there, is to immediately start hitting your # button on the phone, 6 or 7 times, as quickly as possible This confuses the machine that dialed the call and it kicks your number out of their system. Gosh, what a shame not to have your name in their system any longer !!!

(3) Junk Mail Help:
When you get “ads” enclosed with your phone or utility bill, return these “ads” with your payment. Let the sending companies throw their own junk mail away.

When you get those “pre-approved” letters in the mail for everything from credit cards to 2nd mortgages and similar type junk, do not throw away the return envelope.

Most of these come with postage-paid return envelopes, right? It costs them more than the regular 37 cents postage “IF” and when they receive them back.

It costs them nothing if you throw them away! The postage was around 50 cents before the last increase and it is according to the weight. In that case, why not get rid of some of your other junk mail and put it in these cool little, postage-paid return envelopes.

Send an ad for your local chimney cleaner to American Express. Send a pizza coupon to Citibank. If you didn’t get anything else that day, then just send them their blank application back! If you want to remain anonymous, just make sure your name isn’t on anything you send them.

You can even send the envelope back empty if you want to just to keep them guessing! It still costs them 37 cents.

The banks and credit card companies are currently getting a lot of their own junk back in the mail, but folks, we need to OVERWHELM them. Let’s let them know what it’s like to get lots of junk mail, and best of all they’re paying for it…Twice!

Let’s help keep our postal service busy since they are saying that e-mail is cutting into their business profits, and that’s why they need to increase postage costs again. You get the idea !

If enough people follow these tips, it will work —- I have been doing this for years, and I get very little junk mail anymore.

I am starting to get psyched for X-Men 3. Hopefully they will use Storm (Halley Berry) Al lot more than in the first two. Granted, I still have trouble seeing her as Storm. She’s short and dainty. Storm is Claremont female, and they, as a physical type, are Amazons. But those are things I can over looked, ’cause she can act. Not to mention fine as she want to be. Check this clip.
