a Mandate ?

Friday, December 24th, 2004

I am tired of this mandate nonsence. The Presedent won by only one freaking percent.

No excuses

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2004

Let us all remember when

  • our air is less breathable because of weakened environmental standards
  • our civil liberties are less existent because of a renewed USAPATRIOT Act or CAPPS or some other jack-booted monstrosity
  • you feel less certain about a favorable outcome in Iraq because you can’t pick a fight with a country for bogus reasons, depose its leader, and PO a its citizens and expect gratitude just because you call it liberation
  • you feel less secure at home because AQ will still be around blowing stuff up, and N. Korea now has the bomb and will to use it, and the freaking terror alert color is changing every other week
  • everyone has less healthcare because privatized healthcare has an incentive to keep as many people sick as possible, and you can’t get cheap drugs from that third world country called Canada
  • everyone has less employment because of more off shoring and tax incentives that encourage it
  • there is less social security because you can’t allow people to invest in personal retirement account and pay benefits to people (like my mom and dad) who are on SS because the people who work now pay the benefits to people on SS now
  • there is less funding for public education because of vouchers & NCLB
  • there are less options for parents to educate their children because any voucher program will most likely not cover tuition to the best schools, at the same time bankrupting struggling school systems

There are no excuses.

This is the government we chose. The people have spoken. Democracy has triumphed. And all that Jazz.

This goes to the Republican Party and all conservatives put this administration back in power in particular.

You have had control of all branches of Federal Government for 4 years already and succeeded in tightening that grip. You have the run of the beltway. You can just about get any bill passed, and any appointment confirmed. I think you can finally stop blaming Clinton for everything bad we are experiencing now. Its your baby now.

Well , At least we know this time.

Why the Electoral College System Should be Scrapped

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2004

With this being election day, I thought I would get a jump on all of the posts that are sure to come around the blogosphere, as well as other media outlets, for the call to end the electoral college. No matter who wins, I expect Election 2000 all over again only on a MUCH BIGGER scale. Anyway much of the election antics could not be possible if we had direct election for the presidency.

There are two places we should all stand on equal footing in this world, the ballot box, and the pine box. (actually in one of those we are lying down) But the electoral college makes one vote worth more than another. In fact depending on your state laws, if you are not voting with the majority, it is as if you had not voted at all. If you look back in 2000, the entire election was hinged upon one county, in Florida not because the will of the people was not known. That could already be determined it was for Gore. But the entire block of Florida Electoral had yet to be decided. It would be one thing that if the Electors voted will of there district but many states (like Florida) have an all or nothing laws sending ALL electoral votes to the candidate even if the popular vote is very close.

Also only the issues of "battle ground states are addressed in the election. For example. We here in NJ got very little political attention from the national candidates until we seemed like we could get "swing state" status. (We where pretty blue before but I always new NJ is swing state a heart, it being a microcosm of the entire US an all). Anyway issues of the "Battleground States" becomes the issues of America. So Kerry. or Bush each will say that he will be the environmental president, but neither will say "I’m gonna get those people in Ohio to stop polluting NJ’s air with there stinking factories". After all they need Ohio more than NJ.

Also it only takes rigging a few key precincts (like Miami-Dade in FLA) to steal an election in a close race. If anyone wanted to pull something under-handed the effect of this in direct election would be much less. Something MUCH larger would have to be pulled and thus more visible and thus more likely to be caught, in order to have the same effect. Subterfuge is the key to stealing anything, including elections.

Note: this is not subtle.

The parties of course don’t want to change the system. They have a vested interest in keeping it like this. It saves them money. With the states divided in to red and blue, they only have to really concentrate on the white (swing states) instead of the whole country. This of course maximize where they air the attack adds. I suppose I should be gratefully that NJ did not get swing state status.

Vote @ the Polls

Monday, November 1st, 2004

Allot of people are saying black people should not vote in person, but absentee instead. The reason they give is that "they" won’t know you are black, and can’t screw with your vote yadda yadda yadda .

That’s STUPID!!

First, if your name is Quadira Jones, chances are you are a sister. Voting absentee won’t help you.

Second, if anyone wanted to screw with your vote, it is not for the sake of screwing with your vote. It is so that the candidate that they want wins. D. Whiteman is not in the back wringing his hands say in "heh heh heh, those darkies won’t vote in this election." In fact there is no situation more desired than absentee voting, for people who wishes to rig an election. Not only could a few hundred ballots with Candidate X’s name conveniently get "lost in the mail" your name address and voter preferences can be collected so that your name gets "confused" with a felon of the same name next time around.

If you want to protect your vote show up in person and don’t leave until it is cast, preferably in secrete. Bring a cell phone and have the number of a good lawyer on speed dial.

"Please God who ever wins let it be a landslide!!!"

PS: and let it be Kerry :-)

The not ready for prime time voting machines

Friday, September 24th, 2004

It’s already the last full of September and Diebold still can’t get it right.

Activists Find More E-Vote Flaws
E-Vote Fears Soar in Swing States

But Harris said it’s possible to change the voting summaries without using GEMS by writing a script in Visual Basic — a simple, common programming language for Windows-based machines — that tricks the system into thinking the votes haven’t been changed. GEMS runs on the Windows operating system.

It also bothers me that Diebold also makes ATM machines. I would hope that they don’t use the same shoddy stands for them. But being that banks are more conscious of data security issues I would think they would come better than that to them.

Admit it Dan. You got took

Saturday, September 18th, 2004

Come on Dan. Just admit you got took. I won’t hold it against you. It happens to everyone once in awhile. I can understand. You are season and respected news man. This should not happen to you. We all know that Bush dodged the draft by using his Dad’s connections to get into the National Guard. And there is still plenty of evidence that didn’t even complete his duties just so he could join a political campaign. We know where you where going with this. Those on the right would say you had it in for Bush. That you KNEW the documents where fake. Just remember that these are the same people who would criticize DC for electing Marrion Barry but, still would listen to Rush Linbaugh. So who cares what they think anyway?

But you just ‘fess up to it. Because the longer you defend this thing, the more we see the egg on your face. And the “the documents where fake but the contents where real” excuse just sounds too lame and convenient.
