RFID Theft proof of concept demonstrated in Europe

A wise man once said :

One might note that easiest way to “prevent tampering, counterfeiting, or duplication of the document for fraudulent purposes” is to NOT PUT IT ON THE CARD.

This was in reference to the Federal Government’s decision to use RFID, as part of the Government Issue IDs that comply with the REAL ID act.

I hate to say I told you so but …

It will, we are promised, keep the unwanted and dangerous outside our borders, while streamlining entry for those welcome to come and visit.

But as the implementation of the scheme gets underway it is becoming clear that there could be serious problems with it.

Study: RFID Tags Carry Potential Virus Threat
By Ed Oswald, BetaNews

Radio chips being marketed as a replacement for the barcode threaten consumer privacy and are able to carry a virus, Dutch university scientists revealed on Wednesday. An infected radio frequency identity (RFID) tag is able to disrupt the database that reads information on the chip.(link)

Don’t forget the government wants to put this technology in all it paper currency (some people say they have already started), and nationally recognised identification. And some idiots are putting it in their skin.

“Get your Aluminum Wallets Here !!!”

Real ID pretty much sailed through the House. Will most likely do the same in the Senate and signed in to Law. C|Net has got FAQ detailing everything you need to know about this bill. Including a link to how each Congressman voted.

What’s going to be stored on this ID card?
At a minimum: name, birth date, sex, ID number, a digital photograph, address, and a “common machine-readable technology” that Homeland Security will decide on. The card must also sport “physical security features designed to prevent tampering, counterfeiting, or duplication of the document for fraudulent purposes.”

Homeland Security is permitted to add additional requirements–such as a fingerprint or retinal scan–on top of those. We won’t know for a while what these additional requirements will be.

One might note that easiest way to “prevent tampering, counterfeiting, or duplication of the document for fraudulent purposes” is to NOT PUT IT ON THE CARD.

Another Little gem

You said the ID card will be electronically readable. What does that mean?
The Real ID Act says federally accepted ID cards must be “machine readable,” and lets Homeland Security determine the details. That could end up being a magnetic strip, enhanced bar code, or radio frequency identification (RFID) chips.

In the past, Homeland Security has indicated it likes the concept of RFID chips. The State Department is already going to be embedding RFID devices in passports, and Homeland Security wants to issue RFID-outfitted IDs to foreign visitors who enter the country at the Mexican and Canadian borders. The agency plans to start a yearlong test of the technology in July at checkpoints in Arizona, New York and Washington state.

RFID. What the heck does that mean? That mean that ANY PERSON with an RFID reader can send a signal to my drivers license and get the info on it. If a person wanted to tamper with, counterfeit, or duplicate the document for fraudulent purposes he wouldn’t have to rummage though my garbage, a get me to download spy ware on to my computer, I would just have to WALK down the freaking street.

Note to self: I see a future for wallets lined with aluminium foil.

Could this be the Mark ?

My wife found this at The Beeb

A US company has been given the green light to implant microchips in humans. It’s intended to provide medical information … but will it turn into a surveillance system?

The article talks about the applications for security, as well as use in emergency medical situations. It also talks about the privacy, concerns but I would like to talk look at this differently. Consider the following passage from the Book of Revalations in the Holy Bible.

Rev 13:16-18

16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

The above passage is talking about a period in history that has yet to happen (a prophecy of thing to come), called the Great Tribulation Pay attention to the characteristics of the Mark of the Beast. "And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark…" It will be illegal or just physically impossible to conduct any business transaction without "The Mark." In society with currency this is impossible. After all who is going to turn down cash? Even if it is against the law, as long as it is still legal tender? But … what if we where to do away with currency all together? What if you could walk into Wal-Mart with one of these chips implanted under your skin fill up a basket with stuff, and leave. the whole time you where tracked, similar RFID devices implanted in the products we buy would allow a computer to tract us through the store, monitor what we buy, and tally the price and deduct this amount from our bank accounts. No PINS, no check out, no cash, all seamless. And anyone who refused to get such device could not buy a thing. You might think, "Things will never get that bad. You must be smoking somethin’ "If so, just think how many of you had the option to actually receive an actual check at your job, not direct deposit. If you wanted to work you had to have a bank account. At my last job, if you had no account, they would set one up for you. I am not saying that direct deposit has anything to do with the Tribulation or the ends times but as an example how people can be compelled to do anything, if they need to live. This will include receiving the mark.

I am not try to scare anyone or preach to anyone but We (Christians) where instructed to watch and pray. I consider this post as the watch part of the mandate.
