Why is sex SOOO much worse than violence ?

PVP 7-28-2005 The controversy surrounding GTA:San Andreas under scores a serious double standard in America. The disparity in the perception of sex and violence. In America violence is more acceptable than sex.

Growing up I watched a LOT of TV. Especially cartoons. Loony Toons was every bit a staple to me as much as peanut butter, to the point where I could tell the time based on what was on and how many commercials have already played. I was good withing about 3 minutes. I doubt a network executive could have done any better.

Anyway out of all of that TV I must have watched several MILLION act of violence with varying degrees of realism before the age of 10. Everything from car crashes, to gun fights, to Anvils falling on your head. There where several Japanese cities destroyed, during my childhood. And I learned the intricacy of the Dragon, Snake, and Centipede styles of King Fu. I learned how to blow up a building with a bow and arrow and a stick of dynamite. I learned the dangers of loosing control of your emotions if you have been exposed to Gamma Radiation. I learned to NEVER leave your starship wearing a red shirt.

Out of all of that the raciest thing I say was Betty rubble. I take that back. Linda Carter’s Wonder Woman. I take that back too, Nichele Nichols … mm mm mm. Anyway I must f learned the ins and out of several sinister evil plans that could injure hurt or maim but comparativly very little sex, unless I was watching a “soap opera” or something … Americans seem to have a high tolerance for violence. We even have a different name for it when we want kids to watch it. Its called “ACTION.” Action heroes swing in to action pelt the bad guy. And he is almost always packing something. In fact it was a curious thing when when they weren’t packing. Like why didn’t Micheal Knight every carry a gun? Of course when they where Packing they didn’t always make sense. Like the A-Team would expel the equivalent of a a small army’s ration in ordinence and the only thing they could hit where the tires of automobiles. And the bad guys couldn’t hit anything. In any case getting the girl always meant you got to kiss her before the show was over. Face never disappointed.

There’s a point in here somewhere oh yea. The amount of violence depicted on TV is enormous and has always been so. On the original Law & Order, a show that is about 15 or 20 years old, somebody dies every week. Thats the point of the show they investigate homicides. The show has spun off three more shows to depicted even more violence. They are hits. And do I need to talk about Pro wrestling ? The cage match between Mr Morroco & Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka was prolly the bloodiest pre ECW match I’ve seen. I saw that when I was 12. I’m 34 now.

Now back to GTA. The premise of this game is obscene. Granted I have never played it but from what I gather the point of the game is to actually see how violent you can be. The characters go about being generally lawless, without consequence. GTA:San Andreas is about the 5th incarnation of this game. Target & Best Buy where OK selling that. But once you add a sexual component now the game is being banded. The game is prolly more popular then ever now. Nothing makes filth so appealing as making taboo.
